The Rev is dead.......

Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, was found dead at age 28 at his home in Huntington Beach, California, on Monday. He supposedly died of natural causes, though his death was investigated by the coroner’s office and ruled “inconclusive.”

Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said Tuesday that the coroner's office ordered toxicology, microscopic and laboratory tests to help determine why Sullivan died. It's expected to take several weeks to get the results of the tests.

Sullivan, who was found dead in his southern California home on Monday, appeared to have died of natural causes, Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo said. He was 28.

JOHN GRISHAM- THE SUMMONS

John Ray Grisham (born February 8, 1955) is an American author, best known for his popular legal thrillers. Before becoming a writer, he was a successful lawyer and politician. As of 2008, his books have sold over 250 million copies worldwide.

I recently finished THE SUMMONS and here are my thoughts on the book:

The book was a decent read. I didn't see the ending coming, so that was a nice surprise.

I like the way Grisham books are very descriptive and you can always picture the surroundings - whether its the run down isolated family home or the view from the Bonanza or Cessna the that the main character is flying. It gave you a view into small town life where everybody knows each others business - or at least they think they do. His brothers dialogue that their house should be called Maple Ruin instead of Maple Run also makes me smile.

The legal terminology wasn't as present as much as it is in other Grisham books, so it didn't get too complicated.

There is a moral in the read - don't think you always know the best treatment for someone who has life problems, and that a large sum of money will change your way of thinking - no matter how much you plan on doing the right thing.

Not his best book, but an enjoyable read none the less.

The Lost Symbol

The Lost Symbol is a 2009 novel by American writer Dan Brown It is a thriller set in Washington, D.C., after the events of The Da Vinci Code.Released on September 15, 2009, it is the third Brown novel to involve the character of Harvard University symbologist Robert Langdon, following 2000's Angels & Demons and 2003's The Da Vinci Code.

The story focuses on Freemasonry, and takes place over a period of 12 hours in Washington, D.C.Robert Langdon is summoned to give a lecture in National Statuary Hall at the United States Capitol, with the invitation apparently from his mentor, a 33rd degree Mason named Peter Solomon, who is the head of the Smithsonian Institution. However, when Langdon arrives at the Capitol, instead of an audience for his lecture, he finds the severed right hand of Peter Solomon tattooed into a symbolic Hand of the Mysteries, and pointing straight upwards to the fresco The Apotheosis of Washington on the inside of the Capitol dome. Solomon has been kidnapped by the villain Mal'akh, who demands that Langdon unlock the Ancient Mysteries in return for Solomon's life. This leads to a game of cat and mouse throughout the museums and architecture of Washington. Langdon joins forces with Solomon's sister, Katherine, a researcher studying noetic science in a secret laboratory in the Smithsonian Museum Support Center. Langdon and Katherine are pursued by both Mal'akh, and Inoue Sato, the head of the CIA's Office of Security. Sato's demand is that Langdon solve the mystery as a matter of national security, since Mal'akh is planning to release a clandestine video of Washington powerbrokers engaged in secret Masonic rituals. The chase and the clues to the puzzles lead through the sub-basement of the Capitol, the Library of Congress, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, Freedom Plaza, the United States Botanical Garden, and Washington National Cathedral. The clues center around a small stone pyramid, entrusted several years ago by Solomon to Langdon. The pyramid and the box which holds it reveal several puzzles, involving a Masonic cipher, a circumpunct, an alchemical formula, and references to the 1514 engraving Melencolia I.

Mal'akh succeeds in capturing both Katherine and Langdon, torturing both of them, and then takes Peter Solomon to the top floor of the Masonic headquarters House of the Temple. Langdon and Katherine Solomon are rescued by the CIA, while in the meantime Mal'akh reveals to Peter Solomon that he is in fact Peter's own son, Zachary.

As a young man, he had been unhappy with the way he had been treated by his father, so he faked his own death in a Turkish prison. He then experienced a religious epiphany, finding the need to learn the The Lost Word (the verbum significatium or lost symbol of the title).

He plans to complete his transformation into a godlike being by inscribing his scalp with what he mistakenly believes to be the symbol for the Ancient Mysteries, the circumpunct.

Trying to recreate the Biblical story of Abraham on the verge of sacrificing his son, Zachary attempts to goad his father into killing him with Abraham' sacrificial Akedah knife on the altar of the Freemasons[11]. But Langdon intrudes, and a CIA helicopter interrupts the data connection with a targeted EMP to prevent the distribution of the video. Zachary is fatally injured when the helicopter accidentally shatters a skylight above him, and the falling shards pierce his body.

Peter Solomon then takes Langdon to the Washington Monument, viewed from above, a dot in a circular plaza, with a Bible in its cornerstone. Peter tells him that The Word that Mal'akh was seeking was in all holy books such as the Bible, Koran, and Bhagavad Gita. The Ancient Mystery is the realization that people are not God's subjects, but in fact possess the ability to be gods themselves. Langdon realizes that the lost symbol is Gold, standing for limitless human potential

The book is gr8,but i thought that the other two Robert Langdon books by Dan Brown were better.

Phillip M. Margolin

He is a great author. Some of you may think as to why you have not heard of him. I cannot answer this question. When I wanted to know something about this author I did a wikipedia search I got a NO RESULTS FOUND. So I went onto his site and this is his letter to all.

Welcome to the website! I hope both new and old fans will enjoy learning more about my books and talking to me about writing, reading, and the world of Phillip Margolin.

I've always thought of myself as a fan more than a writer. Never in a million years did I imagine that I'd ever get my fiction published let alone have all of my books become New York Times bestsellers. It wasn't until I was in my 30's that I published my first short story, and I was 34 when my first novel, Heartstone, was published but I've been an avid reader since elementary school and I have a book with me wherever I go; and one of the most exciting aspects of being a published novelist is that I get to meet other writers whose books I have enjoyed.

This web site gives me the opportunity to communicate with more of my readers. I'm a self-taught writer. I enjoy answering questions on this web site and at book signings because I would have loved to have an opportunity to ask somebody about writing when I was starting out.

I have read two of his books:

The Last Innocent Man: the storyline of the book is that Defense attorney David Nash has made a career out of setting monsters free -- and no one does it better. Now a case has come to "The Ice Man" that could help cleanse Nash of the guilt and doubts that torment him: that rarest of all defendants, an innocent man.

A fellow lawyer has been accused of a heinous crime -- the brutal murder of an undercover vice cop. But the case that is supposed to be Nash's redemption could prove to be his downfall, dragging him into a dark and sinister world where lies and the truth are interchangeable; where the manipulator becomes the manipulated; and where every answer spawns more complex and terrifying questions. And as the shadows close in around him, the final question that remains for David Nash concerns his own fate: life ... or death?

The Associate: A poster boy for the American Dream, former blue collar boy turned high-powered lawyer Daniel Ames is on easy street as an associate at Reed, Briggs, Portland's most prestigious law firm.

Until one man...and one case...changes everything.

When a charismatic lawyer sues the firm's biggest client, a pharmaceutical company, for manufacturing a drug that causes unspeakable birth defects, Daniel believes the case has no merit. But when information implicating company malfeasance surfaces, the intrepid lawyer doggedly scrambles to find the truth--an investigation that leads him into a vortex of greed, corruption, deceit, and murder. Suddenly caught on the wrong side of the law and in the crosshairs of a powerful enemy, Daniel must unmask an evil conspiracy that wants to bury a deadly secret...and Daniel with it.

This is the best crime book I have ever read. He is a good as John Grisham.

Twilight Saga- Stephenie Meyer

DISCLAIMER
All the views are my own. Any view that hurts the sentiment of any person is purely unintentional. (Though wouldn't mind it much if you are a twilight fan).

The twilight saga consists of the following books:
Twilight
New Moon
Eclipse
Breaking Dawn
(I guess you already knew that!!!!)

The twilight saga is a rage among children and adults alike, with students in classes 4 and 5 being ardent readers. I also agree to the fact that Meyer is a great author and all her books are well written but what I don't like is the storyline and ever too predictable plot. Thus my interest in the books dwindled after the first two books.

My views on the books are as follows:

Twilight: A great first book as most would say but according to me it is a better cure for insomnia than sleeping pills or " The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas as sleep comes naturally while reading this particular book.

I've been a determined hater of the Twilight series for awhile now. Mostly because of the slightly demented fans I've come across. I finally decided to give it a chance and read it a few days ago, during Hurricane Ike of all times. The beginning was tolerable. It isn't until Bella and Edward fall in love that the book descends into sheer idiocy. Bella repeats over and over and over again how gorgeous Edward is, how he looks like a statue of Adonis, how his skin is like marble, even what color his eyes are until I wanted to scream in frustration. Bella herself is the most annoying thing of all though, even more annoying than poor writing or bad plotting. This girl could drive a saint into a murderous rage. She moves to a new town and everyone promptly falls in love with her. All the boys want to date her and all the girls, with two notable exceptions, want to be her friend. The two exceptions, Lauren(a minor, minor, minor character) and Rosalie Cullen, dislike Bella, because they're jealous. Yes, that's right. An impossibly beautiful, immortal, super-powered vampire is jealous of a clumsy girl with freakishly low self-esteem and zero positive personality traits. Edward Cullen has been a vampire for over one hundred years. Out of all the women he's met, not one has captured his heart until Bella, seemingly in the blink of an eye. Also, Edward can read everyone's mind, yet Bella is impervious to his power and an explanation is never given. Essentially the book's message seems to be that women should be totally obsessed with their man and be totally helpless without him. Bella is like the ultimate damsel in distress. I can handle stripping away the usual vampiric weaknesses, since a lot of them are just weird and random, but making them sparkle in the sunlight instead of exploding in a cloud of ash? That's just stupid. The last problem I have with the book is the attitude that Bella displays toward her fellow humans. Almost every human character in the stories is derided, sometimes subtly, sometimes blatantly.
So long story short, don't read Twilight unless you can laugh at it.

New Moon: An atrocious second book which is only meant to emphasize on the failure of most sequels as an intriguing read. I am also sure that the biggest Twilight fan would have taken more than a week to finish the book. It was so boring that I felt that watching my brother sleep (He sleeps for 15 hours a day) is a more viable option if my purpose is to waste time.

Bella and Edward's relationship went from meeting to endless impossible co-dependence in an instant. It's a bit gross, and not a great message for, well anyone. Her relationship with Jacob is fun healthy twinged with a bit of desperation (as Bella is essentially using him). I prefer Jacob obviously. But, throughout all of New Moon, Bella is depressed and frankly obnoxious. She whines, moons, bemoans the hole Edward has left in her chest. This Hole practically becomes a new character as it's referenced so damn much.

As with Twilight, the plot as it were begins as the book winds down (Chapter 20 or so) the rest of the book is a story of an overly mature (maybe not emotionally mature) young woman trying to hold her life together as she heals from a break up. Which, if you've ever experienced that pain, reading it for millions of pages will be exceptionally grating.

Eclipse: It is one of the most well written book by Meyer. A great storyline( for a change) but the book loses its way as it is way too lengthy. I've been trucking along on my way through the series and I will admit that this is the best book I've read in the series thus far. Bella to me is still such an annoying character that you really can't understand what all the hype is about her in the supernatural/mythological world she's been thrown into. Bella sees herself as undeserving of the attention and, as a reader, I agree with her. She shows bravery at times, yes, but she does it for selfish reasons. Everything is blown out of proportion in her own mind that it makes her such a melodramatic character. I don't think I will ever like Bella at this point which is a shame since she is the protagonist of the series!

Now onto this book itself, aside from my annoyances with Bella I still love the other characters that Meyers has created. It was also wonderful to have the mythos of her universe expanded upon with the werewolves vs. the vampires and the vampire wars of the past. If Meyers would spend more focus on these elements of her universe I think the books would be more interesting however I understand that this is a romance and obviously the focus needs to be on that.

I found the scenes between Jacob and Edward to be quite good in that they provided a true conflict that has been, I felt, missing from the other books. The only issue is that from the get-go the reader knows that Bella will stay with Edward so really it just feels unnecessary, even though Meyers writes great moments between them.

I still feel that a thousand pages is too long. What is was only about 500-700 pages long!!!!! It still fells like a thousand pages.

Breaking Dawn: If New Moon was atrocious then I have no word in my dictionary to describe Breaking Dawn. I expected a lot from this final book but it turned out to be utterly disappointing.I dislike 'Breaking Dawn' the most out of the series. I could hardly believe that the author would actually put a teenage girl becoming pregnant in this series. If she wanted to make this book more adult, then she could have put more detail in certain chapters, but none of that was the premise of it. I hated how the plot and how it was all written. I hated how everything surrounded Bella's pregnancy and Edward's not want/want for the child. The only thing I liked was Jacob's point of view. Also, there were entirely too many new characters who we were all supposed to remember being introduced. Stephenie Meyer's should have introduced a few characters at a time throughout the series rather than bombarding the readers with them. On top of that, it was very anti-climactic. The transformation of Bella was one thing I was looking forward to but the excitement lasted a few pages while the description of Bella jumping across a river for her first hunt is more elaborately described. The end was nothing to great actually I felt it was pathetic.A huge fight was expected between the Volturi and the army assembled by the Cullens but no war occurred. I hated how this book was written and how everything in it was approached. Poor work on the author's part.

Sam Bourne

Sam Bourne
is the pen name of the British journalist Jonathan Freedland. He intended to distinguish his work in fiction from his journalism. Freedland is credited on the copyright page as the author of the thriller The Righteous Men(2006), The Last Testament (2007), and The Final Reckoning (2008).

The story of Righteous Men is about a half-British news reporter, Will Monroe (Jr), Jewish Occult Mysticism, Kabbala, Hasidic Judaism , and the nefarious Chirstian sect known as Church of the Reborn Jesus.

I recommend The Righteous Men as it is crafty well paced novel which keeps you gripped till the last page. This is a solid work of fiction with interesting and vivid characters. There are more than a few gripping moments and I admit to being sucked into the world of Will Monroe and Jewish folklore quite easily. The ending wasn't quite as satisfying as I'd hoped with some less than surprising revelations involving Will's immediate family. It's certainly not the greatest read of all time, but I enjoyed it a whole lot more than I expected! Give it a go. There's more enjoyment on offer here than disappointment.
