Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line-up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo.

Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax during the genre's development into a popular style.The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band achieved substantial commercial success with Metallica (1991), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band expanded its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience.

In 2000, Metallica was among several artists who filed a lawsuit against Napster for sharing the band's copyright-protected material for free without the band members' consent.A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Despite reaching number one on the Billboard 200, the release of St. Anger alienated many fans with the exclusion of guitar solos and the oddly tuned snare drum. A film titled Some Kind of Monster documented the recording process of St. Anger.

Metallica has released nine studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, twenty-four music videos, and forty-five singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the first band to do so, this record was later matched by the Dave Matthews Band. In December 2009, it became the highest-selling album of the SoundScan era, surpassing 1997's Come on Over by country artist Shania Twain.The band has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide as of the release of their latest album, Death Magnetic. Westlife

Westlife is an Irish pop group formed on 3 July 1998. The group's original lineup comprised Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden, who left in 2004. Though none of Westlife's members play an instrument full-time, Egan plays guitar on stage, and Byrne has been seen to play drums. Filan and Feehily sing lead vocals. - The group is the only act in UK history to have their first seven singles go straight to Number 1, and they have gone on to sell over 45 million records worldwide[1] which includes their studio, single, video, and compilation albums.Inexplicably, despite the group's worldwide success, they've only had one U.S. hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts: "Swear It Again," which made it to #20 in 2000.

Westlife were originally signed by Simon Cowell and are currently managed by Louis Walsh. In 2008, they were declared as Ireland's ninth-richest celebrities under 30 years old and 13th in general. They garnered 14 number one singles in the United Kingdom, the third-highest in UK history, tying with Cliff Richard and trailing behind only Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The group has also broken a few top records, including "Music artist with most consecutive number 1's in the UK" and the "Biggest selling arena act in the Wembley Arena".

Over years of their career, Westlife's music has evolved from teen pop to a pop sound, with an emphasis on ballads. Most of the group's hits have been composed by experienced songwriters, most notably Steve Mac and Wayne Hector.

Absolute Power- David Baldacci

As a way of discovering books that I would never find on my own, I asked a few friends for their recommendations. One friend suggested that I read something by David Baldacci.

Absolute Power grabbed my attention from the first few pages and the story kept me turning those pages. The characters, and more importantly, their interaction gave the story its depth. For me, its the classic story of good versus evil with its setting in a world of politcal intrigue and the power that comes with wealth.

The central character, Jack Graham, finds himself reluctantly caught up in that world. In the midst of deception and murder, he maintains both his loyalty and integrity. He's the everyman hero who is steadfast in his convictions and remains true to friends no matter what their background may be.

There are many plot twists and surprises as the story progresses. The only disappointment I felt, was that the storyline of some characters ended too abruptly. I wanted to know a little more of what happened to them. However, without question, I am eager to read more from this author.

The Day After Tomorrow - Allan Folsom

While cruising other people's book review pages on the Web, I found a review for this that intrigued me. So I popped over to the local library page and reserved the book on line. When the library notified me it was in and I picked it up, I had forgotten about it or the contents. I knew that someone somewhere had recommended it.

I picked up this thriller a couple days later and started reading; I was sucked in immediately. Paul Osborn is an orthopaedic doctor from California who had been in Geneva presenting a paper at an orthopaedic world convention. There he met Vera. After the convention, he followed her to her home in Paris.

The book opens with him sitting in a Parisian cafe when he spies a face he had not seen in almost 30 years. It is the face of the man who had killed his father when he was 10 years old. Immediately all his old feelings returned and he attacked the man. The waiters jump Osborn and the man gets away.

Detective Paddy McVey was known worldwide as being the best in his field. That is why, when seven headless bodies showed up across Europe, Interpol had him brought to England and France to investigate the bizarre murders. Each one of the bodies had the heads surgically removed very precisely by a medical expert.

Before returning to France, Osborn and Vera had spent a brief weekend in London. Osborn was then arrested for assault in Paris in the restaurant incident. McVey questions him. There is a possible connection between Osborn and some evidence in London (a bodyless head). McVey knows Osborn is hiding something.

Osborn decides to locate the man who killed his father and kill him. Osborn hires a private detective who is able to locate Karanak. So Osborn formulates his plan. What he doesn't realize is that Karanak is a professional. He is up against more than he realizes.

This barely introduces the book. This is a thriller of international intrigue and worldwide takeover. The characters are well defined. Clues are thrown out, but so are many misdirections. Innocent people die because they are in the wrong place. Others get pulled into the intrigue without being aware of what is happening. It's a page turner. Usually when I rate a book this high (A) I usually plan to read it again. I don't think I can this one. It will stay with me a long time.

Avril Ramona Lavigne

Avril Lavigne was born on September 27, in Ontario (Belleville, to be precise), Canada. She achieved star status in her career as a singer. Although it is said that she moved to Manhattan at the age of 16, to start her debut album, the actual story is different. She came to Manhattan to participate in an All-Station Radio Contest. Her hit-single "Complicated", which is written by her, won her the chance to sing with the then sensation, Shania Twain. The listeners went ga-ga over the singer after listening to Complicated.

At the age of 18, she was finally signed by Arista Records Inc. to release her debut album "LET-GO". Arista not only gave her the freedom to write her songs but also encouraged her to go on with what she thought was right. In 2002, when her album Let-Go was released, singles like "Complicated" and "Skater boy" topped the International charts for almost 5 consecutive weeks. As a petite skater girl from a small town, Avril has shown she is independent, full of confidence and determination providing a good combination to earn herself a Break-Through. Complicated earned her 5 grammy nominations, MTV Music Awards, MTV Music European Awards, Video Music Awards and many more. Later in 2005, she came out with another BANG-ON album titled "UNDER MY SKIN" which included the hit-singles My Happy-Ending and Fall To pieces. Moving on with her singing career and passion for singing, She launched "THE BEST DAMN THING". This album of hers turned out to be the most awaited album of the year 2007. She always came up with something new and this time it was her single Girlfriend. The song made crazy fans for itself! So much that Avril announced her very first tour- THE BEST DAMN THING TOUR. She quoted- "I will leave no place around this world, undone with my concert".

She showed extreme talent in the genres of music in which not many female artists could turn out to be good at, namely, Pop Rock, Punk Rock, Rock and Grunge Pop. Her career reached the Zenith's height after she won (or was nominated for) the following awards:

* New artist in a Video (VMA) for Complicated.

* Let-Go, Best-Selling album of the year 2002.

*Favourite Female Singer at the 18th Annual Kid's Choice Awards.

* 3 Juno Awards- Fan Choice Award, Artist of the year and Pop-Album Of the year.

* #1 in Teen People's Hot Top 21 under 21 Poll.

The best part about her is that she writes about her life experiences. All her songs have feelings embedded in them. She was quoted saying "If you don't like me for who I am, then you don't like me for who I am and all you gonna get is WHO I AM! She is an ultimate singer with not just an amazin voice but also killer looks.
